About the role
The City of Anoka is seeking a senior-level officer to manage various programs within the Fire Department. The primary focus is on fire protection plan review, code enforcement, fire investigation, juvenile fire setter intervention, and community fire safety programs.
Responsibilities
- Conducts research of code issues in coordination with the fire department and fire inspection staff.
- Manages and evaluates personnel at the scene of emergencies and othersettings.
- Manages/conducts the review of fire protection system plans for new construction and alterations of existing buildings.
- Manages/coordinates the fire investigation function to include: conducting investigations, coordinating with other agencies, preparing reports, and maintaining data and files.
- Serves in the incident command structure at emergency scenes and/or in City’s emergency operations center.
- Provides incident command functions, and supervision of fire officers and firefighters at emergency scenes and in other work settings.
- Provides administrative and operations support and direction as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in fire science, fire service management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of progressively responsible fire service experience with at least two of those in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and administering fire prevention and fire investigation programs.
- Current MN Firefighter License.
- Minnesota State Fire Service Certifications: Firefighter I & II, Haz-Mat Ops, Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Officer I, Fire Apparatus Operator (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Certification at the Emergency Medical Responder level or higher.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 as well as 300 & 400 (or the ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Possession of valid, unrestricted Minnesota driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of the Fire Department.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws as they relate to fire and building codes, fire and arson investigation, and juvenile fire setter intervention.
- Current programs and practices concerning community fire safety education and injury prevention.
- Principles, practices, and methods of comprehensive fire suppression, hazardous materials, emergency response, safety and injury prevention, and emergency medical services.
- Principles of incident command, supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Pertinent, Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Fire Department policies and procedures.
Skills
- Clear and concise communication, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Operate assigned vehicle.
- Manage assigned projects and set appropriate priorities.
- Interpret and apply applicable Federal, State, and local policies, laws, and regulations in assigned areas.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a schedule that includes rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
