About the Role

This position functions autonomously to deliver speech therapy treatment, either through referral or direct to consumer. The role involves evaluating patients, developing treatment plans, assessing patient progress, and ensuring patient needs are met through access to care, patient experience, and quality of care metrics. Additionally, the role assists in program development and enhancement to meet patient and community needs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs evaluations and provides treatment programs to facilitate patient-specific goals.
  • Assesses the patient’s response to treatment and recommends treatment plan changes as appropriate.
  • Maintains patient records according to documentation standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Attains established productivity levels set forth by administration, including but not limited to access to care, patient experience, and quality.
  • Assists in program development and enhancement to meet patient and community needs.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanations, requesting permissions, and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in speech language pathology (required).
  • Current speech pathologist license in the state of practice OR eligibility for licensure by examination OR reciprocity from another state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) required within 2 years of hire.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills for dealing with a variety of patients and diagnoses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible with fluctuating schedules based on patient demand.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Very Heavy Work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
  • Works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
  • Occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases and potentially hazardous medications or waste.
