About the Role

Special Olympics Mecklenburg County is seeking passionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable volunteers to serve as pickleball coaches and assistant coaches for local Special Olympics athletes. This role involves helping athletes learn and improve their pickleball skills through game knowledge, enthusiasm, commitment, and a positive attitude. Coaches will enrich athletes' lives by building physical and social skills, instilling self-confidence, and fostering personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist in weekly pickleball practices to teach and develop athletes' skills.
  • Bring enthusiasm, game knowledge, and a positive attitude to practices, events, and competitions.
  • Participate in an 8-week practice schedule (one 1-hour practice per week).
  • Coach at the Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Tournament in November (one weekend event).
  • Coach independently, with a co-coach, or with an assistant, based on preference.

Location & Schedule

  • Location: The Serve Pickleball + Kitchen - Cornelius, NC
  • Practice Times: Mondays, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (September 14th - November 9th)

Requirements

  • Knowledge of pickleball (no prior coaching experience required; training provided).
  • Must be at least 18 years old to become a certified coach.
  • Ability to commit a few hours each month for practices and events.
