Sparty's Snackshop/Concession Attendant

About the role

Participate, oversee, and assist student staff in the preparation of “short order” style food items in the retail food service venue at Sparty's at Hubbard Hall. This position is designated as critical status; in the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations, you are expected to report to work as scheduled.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory of food and supply items.
• Direct student staff in proper sanitation of the unit and ensure adherence to prescribed sanitary standards.
• Oversee and assist in proper handling and storage of food and supplies to ensure efficiency and reduce waste and spoilage.
• Operate a cash register and maintain transaction controls during assigned shifts.
• Oversee and assist in cleaning dishes, utensils, and work areas.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques.
• Two years of satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
• Willingness to work a flexible shift.
• Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations.
• Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
• Possession of a valid Michigan operator's license may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of employment experience in Residential and Hospitality Services.
• Interpersonal skills to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, and the public.
• Commitment, desire, and passion to deliver outstanding Spartan experiences daily.
• Ability to perform simple tasks following oral and written instructions.
• Familiarity with the proper use and care of food service equipment or the ability to be trained.
• Knowledge of computerized registers or the ability to be trained to use them accurately.
• Some overseeing and cash handling experience is desirable.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday off.

Physical Demands

Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
