Holmes Snackshop/Concession Attendant

About the Role

Participate, oversee, and assist student staff in the preparation of “short order” style food items. Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory of food and supply items. Oversee and assist in proper handling and storage of food and supplies to ensure efficiency and reduce waste and spoilage. Operate a cash register as needed and maintain controls for transactions during assigned shifts. Oversee and assist in cleaning dishes, utensils, and work areas according to prescribed sanitary standards.

This position is located at Holmes Hall and is designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations, you are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled. If you have an approved remote work agreement, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

• Ensure proper storage of food and supplies to minimize waste

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques
• Two years of satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level or equivalent technical training
• Willingness to work a flexible shift
• Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations
• Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds

Qualifications

• Commitment and passion to “deliver outstanding Spartan experiences” daily
• Ability to perform simple tasks following oral and written instructions
• Familiarity with the proper use and care of food service equipment or ability to be trained
• Knowledge of computerized register or ability to be trained to use accurately
• Some overseeing and cash handling experience is desirable

Schedule

Monday off, Tuesday through Friday 1:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m., with alternating weekends off.

Physical Demands

Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
