Sparty's Snackshop/Concession Attendant

Participate, oversee, and assist student staff in the preparation of “short order” style food items in the retail food service venue. Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory of food and supply items. Direct student staff in proper sanitation, food handling, and storage to ensure efficiency and reduce waste. Operate a cash register and maintain transaction controls during assigned shifts. Oversee and assist in cleaning dishes, utensils, and work areas according to sanitary standards.

Position location: Sparty's at Hubbard Hall. All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled. If you have an approved remote work agreement, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques
  • Two years of satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level or equivalent technical training
  • Willingness to work a flexible shift
  • Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations
  • Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds
  • Valid Michigan operator's license may be necessary

Qualifications

  • Two to three years of employment experience in Residential and Hospitality Services
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, and the public
  • Commitment and passion to “deliver outstanding Spartan experiences” daily
  • Ability to perform simple tasks following oral and written instructions
  • Familiarity with the proper use and care of food service equipment or ability to be trained
  • Knowledge of computerized register systems or ability to be trained
  • Some overseeing and cash handling experience is desirable

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday off)

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds
