Social Work Supervisor III - FC

The goal of the Gaston County Human Services Center and Division of Social Services is to foster an agency that is professionally responsive to our citizens' needs through daily caring outreach and to serve as an advocate for those in need.

About the Role

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $37.50 - $44.53 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of 5 Social Worker IIIs in a foster care unit dedicated to finding timely permanency for children.
• Apply strong working knowledge of rules, laws, and policies around foster care to ensure child safety and well-being for a caseload of 75-100+ open cases.
• Handle all personnel matters for direct reports, including performance evaluations, work plans, and corrective action plans.
• Facilitate unit/team staffing on a monthly rotation with a partner Supervisor and individually staff cases as needed to provide support, direction, and guidance.
• Accompany, critique, guide, and coach staff during direct service delivery for training, coverage during absences, or in dangerous/threatening situations.
• Provide individual attention and training to each social worker (including interns) on an as-needed basis, including support, encouragement, coaching, and discipline.
• Review all documentation, including court paperwork and orders, to ensure compliance with law and policy.
• Assign and transition cases in accordance with state administrative standards, collaborating with legal staff to ensure child safety and permanency.
• Manage scheduling and leave approval for the unit in collaboration with a partner supervisor and team.
• Participate in interviewing, selection, and hiring processes for unit staff, including performance evaluations.
• Attend Children and Family Services Management Team meetings monthly, participate in subcommittees, and provide input to promote accountability and consistency.
• Available to work mandatory emergency shelters and other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution and 1 year of directly related experience.
• Master's degree in a human services field (such as counseling, psychology, or related discipline) and 2 years of directly related experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a human services field and 3 years of directly related experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to adjust to changing work environments and clientele needs, multitask, and handle intense interpersonal situations involving danger, violence, or safety risks.
• Knowledge of social work principles, methods, and practices.
• Knowledge of casework supervision and staff training.
• Knowledge of behavioral health, substance use, disabilities, and community resources.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies governing social work programs.
• Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate professional social workers, organize work, monitor quality, and manage caseload distribution.
• Strong communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information

The selected applicant must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
