Skills Trainer, Heavy Equipment Operation

About the role

A Heavy Equipment Operation Skills Trainer develops and delivers training programs for safe and efficient operation of mobile heavy equipment. They develop training materials, conduct training sessions, assess trainee performance, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and operating procedures. Additionally, they may provide ongoing support and guidance to equipment operators to enhance their skills and knowledge. They work with management to identify training needs and improve equipment utilization and safety. They will conduct mobile equipment efficiency reviews and work with plant supervision to implement and maintain productive, safe equipment operation practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist plant operations in identifying, training, and developing task trainers for mobile equipment operation, equipment utilization, operator efficiency and safe operating practices.
• Aid in developing and maintaining training modules.
• Maintain records of training conducted and submit reports to management on all training activities.
• Conduct classroom instruction and one-on-one training on equipment at various plant sites across the region, which includes but is not limited to task training, haul truck and loader operator training (HALOS), and Stockpile Management courses for mobile equipment.
• Work with plant and operations management to identify training needs as well as task trainers, proper utilization of equipment based on the application and improve operator efficiencies and auditing safe operating practices.
• Collaborate with Corporate, Central Region Management and OEM Mobile Equipment groups to develop and maintain training modules.
• Attend vendor classes to stay updated with changing technology, techniques, standards, and equipment.
• Conduct assessments to evaluate operator competency and identify areas for improvement.
• Conduct mobile equipment efficiency reviews and work with plant supervision to implement and maintain productive, safe equipment operation practices.
• Develop and update training for plant operations management/supervisors to help identify, improve, and maintain mobile equipment utilization, production, and safety gains.
• Work closely with operations management, Mine Planning, Drilling & Blasting, and other support groups to improve pit productivity and safety.
• Deliver training in both classroom and practical (on-site) settings.
• Promote “Best Practices and Standards” for mobile equipment.
• Work with and coach mobile equipment operators as needed.
• Attend training classes to stay informed about the latest operator techniques and technologies.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
• BS / BA degree in Business, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience is preferred.
• Minimum of three to five years experience operating, maintaining, or supervising off-highway equipment. Minimum two years experience as off-highway equipment operator trainer preferred.
• Must have verbal and written communication skills. Communicates effectively with trainees, supervisors, and other relevant personnel. Able to prepare training materials for in both classroom and practical (on-site) settings. Must possess the ability to create in-house technical training modules. Collaborates with other trainers to assess and address individual trainee needs. Excellent record keeping. Basic computer software knowledge is required.
• Knowledge of off-highway aggregate equipment, operations and mining techniques. Good teaching abilities, communication, and writing skills are required.

Qualifications

• Approximately 75% of time will be spent in the field and 25% spent in the office.
• This position is eligible for Vulcan's Fleet Vehicle Program.
• Current valid state driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of safety regulation for off-highway equipment is required.
• Extended hours and travel including overnight travel on short notice is required. Approx. 30% overnight travel.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment when in and around mine operations.
• Must understand and ensure all Vulcan standards are followed and that any violations of these standards are promptly reported to management.

Benefits

The pay range for this position varies based on the selected candidate's primary work location as outlined below. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

• Hanover, PA or Richmond, VA: $75,000 - $110,000
• Havre De Grace, MD: $83,000 - $120,000
• Herndon, VA: $92,000 - $130,000
