Short Term Substitute - Moderate Needs Teacher - Grandview High School

Non-exempt hourly position with no direct supervisory responsibilities.

About the role

Provide instruction and manage a classroom in the regular teacher's absence, following provided lesson plans, managing student behavior, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations (50% of time)
• Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise student behavior and well-being in all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate (25% of time)
• Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes (20% of time)
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested (5% of time)

Requirements

• High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
• Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute authorization or teaching license
• Basic knowledge of typical office equipment (telephones, copiers, fax machines, email)
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Basic classroom management and planning skills
• Basic organizational skills
• Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
• Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
• Ability and desire to work as a team member
• Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Previous successful teaching experience
• Experience working in the public sector
• Experience advising school clubs or co-curricular activities
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
