About the role

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade-level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district-approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and technology; adjusts teaching style and method to meet student learning styles.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress; reports grades using District software.
  • Prepares student attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days).
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community; believe in and support all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high-quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability, with or without accommodations, to meet the physical demands of the position.

Pay

$30.765 per hour.
