Set Up- 2nd shift

About the Role

Working from drawings, specifications, bills of material, material specifications, welding instructions, and codes, you will set up, fit, clamp, bolt, and tack weld diversified structural and weldment assemblies according to dimensional and alignment requirements. This role requires knowledge of welding technology and experience, fulfilling ASME Section IX Welding Qualifications. You will provide leadership and guidance to helpers and others as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Determine sub-assemblies, centerlines, and quadrant locations for shell openings using drawings, specifications, manuals, and codes.
• Direct or personally cut out openings for nozzles, plates, lift lugs, couplings, and reinforcements on large units.
• Fit up and tack weld specified components.
• Create temporary fixtures when standard fixtures are unavailable.
• Set up face blocks, jogs, and fixtures to minimize heat, weld distortion, and shrinkage during welding.
• Repair and straighten damaged or bent parts.
• Operate material handling equipment, including jibs, overhead cranes, and accessories.
• Design and make templates as needed.
• Account for subsequent machining allowances.
• Consult with welders on methods to offset heat effects for dimensional alignment and weld appearance.
• Collaborate with Supervisors and Drafting/Engineering to address non-conformities or drawing errors.
• Fabricate and construct fixtures, position rigs, and devices for repetitive products to expedite production.
• Use measuring tools (e.g., straight edge, tape, welding gauges) to ensure proper weld dimensions.
• Meet customer quality requirements and expectations.
• Follow oral and written instructions, including reading blueprints and work instructions.
• Provide instruction and guidance to assigned employees and participate in training welders and other department employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or designate.

• Use scaffolds, ladders, forklifts, scissor lifts, cranes, or hoists as required.
• Maintain a clean, clutter-free work area.
• Practice safety at all times, following safety policies and procedures.
• Speak up when others are non-compliant with safety protocols.
• Wear all required safety equipment for the area of work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• BOCES or trade school training, or equivalent on-the-job training.
• Knowledge of welding and competence in using material handling equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime as required.

Physical and Mental Demands

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. Must communicate clearly and have corrected vision to 20/20 or adequate, with the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Mental Demands: Requires reading, writing, analyzing data and reports, exercising judgment, developing plans and goals, presenting information, and working under pressure.

Work Environment: Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes, high noise levels, exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts with vibration.
