Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and adjust metal fabricating machines to meet production requirements, including roll forming equipment, brake presses, and shears.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine proper machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operations.
- Select, position, and secure dies, rollers, blades, cutters, and fixtures using measuring tools, templates, shims, and hand tools.
- Position and clamp stops, guides, and turntables to ensure accurate material flow and product dimensions.
- Adjust machine controls to regulate operating factors such as speed, product dimensions, bend angles, and forming pressures.
- Start machines and monitor operation, making necessary adjustments to machine settings or workpiece positioning to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Inspect parts using rulers, gauges, protractors, and templates to verify conformance with specifications.
- Clear jams, troubleshoot issues, and correct minor malfunctions during operation.
- Report equipment repair needs to the supervisor and dismantle setups following production runs.
- Load and unload material coils onto or off coil payoffs and feed tables as needed.
- Requisition materials from other departments or Purchasing to ensure continuous production supply.
- Maintain inventory levels and accurately enter production and inventory data into the database system.
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping.
- Ability to work in either a standing or seated position, or alternate between the two as necessary.
- Strength rating: Medium Work — exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Physical demand requirements exceed those of light work.
- Classification: Class I - Medium (Dictionary of Occupational Titles, 4th Edition, Vol. I & II)
