Summary
Senior Systems Analyst 1 gathers and analyzes information for the purpose of developing and modifying data processing systems in a variety of subject matter fields. Emphasis of the work is on defining problems and systems objectives, documentation of fact-finding, analysis of results, assurance of cost effectiveness of recommendations made and preparation of findings, recommendations and specifications in formal reports and oral presentations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Communicates with application programmers in defining system and program specifications and ensures that programmers have a thorough knowledge of these requirements.
Supervision
- Exercises a high degree of technical judgment and initiative in applying probability theory and integrating management information and forecasting systems.
- Exercises a high degree of ability in communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Meets with various management and supervisory personnel as assigned to define requirements for analytical studies; discusses and evaluates management needs, objectives and goals susceptible to systems solution.
- Plans and conducts fact-finding interviews to gather information; applies current state-of-the-art technology to effect solution of problems; arrives at design objectives and decisions.
- Prepares system specifications; develops system modification, testing and conversion plans.
- Captures and documents facts and data to be used in the development of systems.
- Coordinates with programming staffs in defining system and program specifications.
- Supervises team preparation of studies including gathering of information and preparation of systems proposals, as assigned.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of advanced computer software and hardware including programming languages, software packages and modern peripheral equipment.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of symbolic logic and the principles of deductive reasoning.
- Effectively applies considerable knowledge of mathematics, mathematical relationships, probability theory and business statistics.
- Demonstrates considerable knowledge of basic governmental accounting and operational procedures and sources of available data.
- Interprets diagrammatic representations of work flow with spatial perception.
- Demonstrates ability to work to precision and establish standards for accuracy.
- Communicates effectively, orally and in writing.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with both interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel.
- Displays leadership skills in a cooperative manner.
- Displays behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
Credentials
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
