About the role

This is a part-time temporary role not to exceed 30 weeks. The Senior Structural Engineer will support NASA/ES in the review of Commercial Crew Stress Reports to support first flight (NET January 2024), components, and subsystem hardware designs.

Responsibilities

  • Review Structural verification plans and structural analysis for NASA spaceflight hardware
  • Apply Fracture Control experience for spaceflight hardware, including understanding of NASA fracture control requirements and implementation
  • Review Structural Analysis Reports and create a spreadsheet database with comments and questions
  • Meet with Sierra to resolve comments and questions as needed
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (BSME)
  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience; a related master’s or higher degree may be expected
  • 15+ years of experience in NASA spaceflight hardware structures and analysis (preferred)
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be required
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

Work Environment

  • Generally an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on task
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time)
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time)
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical; ability to work outside normal schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements
