Senior Structural Engineer – Part Time
About the role
VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This role supports the planning, analysis, and design of a diverse portfolio of structural projects across New England. The position is temporary/part-time and can be performed remotely by an engineer residing in the MA/RI/NH region, with occasional travel to client sites as needed.
Responsibilities
- Support, develop, organize, and implement structural planning, analysis, preliminary, and final design document preparation.
- Manage tasks and review plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
- 8-11 years of professional experience in structural bridge and building design, construction phasing, and complex projects.
- BS in Civil Engineering; Master’s Degree preferred.
- PE licensure required.
- Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering.
- Demonstrated excellence in technical writing.
- Team-oriented with a strong capability to work independently.
- Robust technical and critical thinking skills.
- Detail-oriented and quality-focused.
- Strong project management skills.
- Motivated to lead and mentor others.
- Knowledge of structural engineering software; AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8, Revit, OpenRoads, OpenBridge, and/or Connect experience is a plus.
Pay
Our best estimate of the hourly rate for this position is $55.00-$81.00 per hour (Boston/Watertown, MA) or $50.00-$76.00 per hour (Worcester, MA). The final hourly compensation will be based on individual qualifications, education, and experience.
