About the Role
The Senior Market Development Manager is responsible for executing a comprehensive business growth strategy to expand USP Biologics activities across cell and gene therapy, monoclonal antibodies, peptides, and microbiology modalities. This role identifies, researches, and pursues new and adjacent market opportunities, translating market insights into actionable strategies to drive adoption of USP Biologics standards and reference materials.
The incumbent builds and sustains strategic relationships with key customers and industry stakeholders, including biologics manufacturers, raw material suppliers, analytical testing laboratories, distributors, and trade organizations. Through proactive relationship management, the role expands USP’s commercial network, generates new sales opportunities, and supports market penetration and brand awareness.
Working cross-functionally with sales, product management, scientific affairs, digital and regional marketing, and other internal teams, the Senior Market Development Manager serves as a liaison between customers and USP stakeholders. This collaboration supports integrated marketing and sales strategies to meet annual revenue targets, drive profitable growth, and improve gross margin performance.
The role requires a strong understanding of USP business requirements, customer needs, and competitive market dynamics. Responsibilities include analyzing competitor activity, tracking regional customer and pipeline data, managing budgets and forecasts, and monitoring performance through regular reporting. The position also supports voice-of-customer efforts to inform future standards development and contributes to external collaborations aligned with USP’s mission.

- Manage budgets and forecasts for growth initiatives and monitor performance through reporting.
- Support voice-of-customer efforts to inform future standards and materials development.
- Navigate ambiguity, frequent change, and real-time course correction.
- Engage effectively with diverse, global teams and external partners.
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and sound judgment.
- Deliver in-person and virtual presentations with strong business acumen.
- Utilize Microsoft Office, Copilot, and data querying tools for analysis and reporting.
- Work flexible hours to support global time zones.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related science field required; or a business degree with 4+ years of related field experience.
- 5-6 years of experience in the global pharmaceutical or life science tools industry, with a strong understanding of local market and manufacturing trends.
- At least 4 years of experience in sales, marketing, or a customer-facing role.
- Basic understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, FDA/government regulations, and use of compendial and industry standards.
- Proven ability to build credibility with stakeholders and work in inclusive, equitable environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Combined education and experience within life science tools, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and analytical sciences.
- Experience using data analytical platforms (e.g., Tableau), digital marketing platforms (e.g., Marketo), and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce).
- Previous sales and/or global marketing experience with standards, controls, or reference materials.
- Experience with regulatory compliance, quality control, quality assurance, or GMP background.

Pay
Base Salary Range: USD $120,051.00 – $171,072.00 annually.
Target Annual Bonus: Varies based on role level. Individual compensation packages consider factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and equity.
