General Description

The Senior HR Generalist serves as the operational backbone of the Human Resources department, owning the day-to-day employee relations work that keeps a multi-site, licensed behavioral health organization running smoothly and in compliance. Reporting directly to the HR Director, this hands-on role independently manages workplace investigations, leaves of absence, accommodations, and performance-related matters across California and Colorado worksites. The ideal candidate brings seasoned HR judgment, discretion with highly confidential matters, and the ability to act as a trusted resource to managers and staff alike.

Essential Functions

  • Employee Relations and Performance Management:
    • Conduct prompt, thorough, and well-documented investigations into employee complaints, allegations, and policy violations from intake through resolution, escalating high-risk matters to the HR Director as appropriate.
    • Support supervisors with corrective action, performance improvement plans, and documentation standards that are consistent and defensible.
    • Serve as a first point of contact for employee and manager concerns, providing coaching, conflict resolution, and guidance grounded in policy and employment law.
  • Leave of Absence Management:
    • Manage all leaves of absence end-to-end, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA accommodations, Colorado FAMLI, and workers' compensation coordination, ensuring timely notices and accurate documentation.
  • Policy and Documentation:
    • Interpret and apply company policies consistently; maintain meticulous, confidential records of all employee relations matters.
    • Help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across both states; partner with the Compliance Coordinator and Compliance Officer on personnel-file and survey-readiness matters.
    • Support offboarding processes, including separation documentation and exit interviews, feeding insights into retention efforts.
    • Partner with the HR Director on special projects, process improvements, and HR initiatives as needed.

Additional Functions

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Follows and supports TPEG policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with internal and external partners.
  • Represents TPEG, Inc., by embodying the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Travels occasionally during the workday and on occasional overnight stay. (Compensation for mileage, food and lodging provided.)
  • Maintains regular attendance at work and company activities and demonstrates punctuality regarding deadlines.
  • Displays creativity and vision in recommending new tactics and strategies.
  • Expands and updates job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional learning.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Licensure: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification. Preferred.
    • Related Experience: Minimum 4–6 years of progressive HR generalist experience, including direct ownership of investigations and leave administration.
    • Other Experience / Skills Required: Working knowledge of California employment law; familiarity with Colorado employment law strongly preferred.
    • Experience: Working with culturally diverse individuals and communities or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with diverse populations.
    • Familiarity: With equity and/or diversity initiatives within an organization.
    • Communication: Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
    • Decision Making: Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently and use initiative to accomplish complex assignments with general instruction and guidance.
    • Integrity: Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and integrity on the job with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
    • Organization: Demonstrated ability to organize time and other resources to perform multiple tasks.
    • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to work accurately and in a timely manner with attention to detail.
    • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work well with others and to provide effective team leadership.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in word processing and database and/or spreadsheet applications.
    • Physical and Mental Attributes: Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions.
    • Recognition: Demonstrated ability to recognize merit, excellence and intelligence in staff and potential employees.
    • License: Valid Driver's License
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Proficient in English Language
    • Proficient Communicator
    • Prior HR experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or another licensed/regulated environment.
