About the role
The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking a motivated, dynamic individual to join our team at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Our skilled nursing facility offers excellent patient care resources and time allotment, ceiling lift systems in every patient room and bathroom, ample supplies and PPE equipment, a state-of-the-art smoke-free facility, and an on-site pharmacy.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living nursing care, including oral hygiene, bathing, dressing and grooming, hair and nail care, shaving, toileting, and feeding.
- Routinely observe and report resident concerns and needs to supervisors.
- Escort residents to appointments when required.
- Perform restorative and simple nursing measures as outlined in the care plan.
- Use appropriate techniques for mechanical lifts, transfers, and positioning, and monitor for signs of pressure ulcers and falls.
- Provide end-of-life care and assist with resident behaviors, including dementia/alzheimer's.
- Ensure resident safety by using safety devices as outlined in the care plan.
- Document all care given and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
- Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in Florida.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Effective communication skills in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Completion of due diligence process, including background checks and drug tests.
Pay and Benefits
- Annual salary: $37,420.76
- Paid bi-weekly.
- Overtime eligible; may be eligible for shift differential.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Experience in a 120-bed skilled long-term care facility, BLS/CPR certification, and OPS SCNA Weekend Warrior program eligibility.
