Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is a Community Centered Utility whose mission is to foster healthy people, environment, and economy by partnering with our community to equitably manage water and waste resources for today and future generations. SPU delivers high quality, vital services, across four major lines of business: providing water, solid waste, drainage and wastewater services for Seattle residents and businesses. In addition, SPU provides drinking water for 1.5 million regional customers in Seattle and other municipalities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage, track and implement a large and varied portfolio of workspace requests and projects, and serve as a project manager for large, complex capital projects.
  • Lead large, complex capital projects from concept to completion, directly managing project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Track all project phases and costs using SPU’s Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) System including schedule, milestones, and budget to ensure compliance with specifications and budgetary requirements.
  • Work closely with staff across the utility and three lines of business, division directors, chief operating officers, SPU Leadership Team, and the SPU Executive Team as well as the Department of Finance and Administrative Services and Information Technology Department.
  • Hire and manage vendors, consultants, and contractors through all design and construction phases.
  • Ensure vendor contracts are current and sufficient for needed services.
  • Review quotes and approve payments to vendors and contractors including verification and accuracy of product and service invoices.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, advertisements and official documents and give presentations.
  • Develop and present clear technical documents, proposals, and presentations.
  • Develop and implement communications and change management plans.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of project or construction management or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field.
  • Experience and Education Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • Current Washington State driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • Experience with workspace management type work (furniture requests, moves, space planning and reconfigurations, and remodels).
  • Experience leading work on cross-functional teams or matrixed organizations where coordination with various stakeholders were required.
  • Familiarity using systems to manage service requests and work orders and to track capital project performance.
  • Knowledgeable about public works contracting and government procurement processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering design documents including plans, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Experience with continuous improvements and change management in a workspace environment.
  • Successful at solving problems in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Workplace Environment

The employee in this position will be required to come into the office five days a week, Monday - Friday. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is $64.17 - $74.86 per hour.
