About the role

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to provide professional research assistance to a faculty member. This GA will focus on two research areas: Generative AI Security and Information Freshness in Wireless Networks.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize research findings.
  • Aid in experiments, simulations, coding, and data analysis.
  • Develop and test research software or tools (e.g., for AI or wireless simulation).
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, or conference papers.
  • Visualize results and contribute to research presentations.
  • Participate in regular research meetings with the supervising faculty member.

Requirements

  • Must be a current CSUSB graduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Strong programming ability (e.g., Python, C++, or Java).
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include coursework or project experience in machine learning, AI, cybersecurity, or wireless networks.
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), generative AI models (e.g., large language models, diffusion models), or network simulation tools (e.g., ns-3).
  • Prior research experience in academia or industry.
  • Proficiency with LaTeX and technical writing.

Special Conditions

  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.

Benefits

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Actual salary will be in accordance with percentage of time appointed.

Schedule

  • Positions are available starting July 1, 2024.
