About the role

The Department of Biological Sciences at California State University San Bernardino invites applications for a Graduate Assistant (GA) position. This position provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students to gain valuable experience in both research and supervising students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory while contributing to the department’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of faculty members in the Department of Biological Sciences.
  • Support faculty research initiatives.
  • Evaluate student work and examinations.
  • Prepare course materials.
  • Help foster student learning.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in the MS in Biology degree program at California State University, San Bernardino.
  • Must maintain academic eligibility throughout employment period (3.0 GPA or higher).
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students.
  • Must demonstrate a demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work independently.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
  • Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

Special Conditions

  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
  • Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.

About the Department

The Department of Biology has 14 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide pivotal support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for microscopy, 3D printing, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, and plant growth. The CSUSB herbarium hosts a small collection (about 4,000 specimens) of mostly local flora.
