About the role
The Professional Writing Office at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) seeks enthusiastic individuals to work as Writing Consultants in our business-centered office. The position requires strong critical thinking skills, exceptional writing and communication aptitude, and the ability to manage a wide range of personalities and diverse student populations.
Responsibilities
- Tutor both graduate and undergraduate students in their business writing and communications assignments.
- Manage various formats associated with business writing, including general mechanics and grammar.
- Transition between different student needs and provide a positive attitude during tutoring sessions.
- Complete administrative tasks such as generating reports, creating fliers, and assisting in campus events.
Requirements
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills.
- Ability to work through a wide range of assignments to help students improve their writing.
- Junior-level standing with a GPA of 3.5 or higher in English/writing courses.
- Completion of MGMT 3500 (or equivalent) with a "B+" or better.
- Self-driven with the ability to manage time effectively without direct supervision.
- A "can do" attitude who delivers outstanding service to all students.
- Transportation to campus for 50% or more of the shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Management 3500 with a B+ or better.
- Promotion and social media aptitude.
- Desire to maintain the office's presence on campus.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Special Conditions
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with CSUSB.
