About the Role
The Sales Estimator is responsible for contracting profitable work and building relationships with new accounts, while continuing to sell to existing accounts within the assigned region. This role aligns with the company’s goals of expanding its industry-leading fire, life safety, and security services.
Responsibilities
- Understand construction fundamentals and read/comprehend construction documents.
- Perform tasks such as downloading documents, setting up folders, and completing Excel and Word documents.
- Collaborate with other sales staff to complete estimates efficiently and accurately.
- Handle data entry for companywide job tracking purposes.
- Responsible for preliminary system layout and design for project estimating.
- Communicate with Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or other governing agencies.
- Write and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) during the bidding phase of projects.
- Attend RFP sales meetings as mandated by manager.
- Conduct code research related to projects as required.
- Review and monitor online plan room services for future project opportunities.
- Complete and maintain contractor and owner pre-qualification forms.
- Manage project portal websites.
- Attend trade shows, including setting up/breaking down booths and engaging with attendees.
- Meet with clients to establish and maintain positive relationships with new and existing accounts.
- Occasional to moderate domestic travel as required.
- Identify and analyze customer preferences to direct sales efforts effectively.
- Provide regular feedback and reports regarding performance.
- Act as a company representative with potential customers and clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong technical understanding of fire alarm systems.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of estimating and selling fire protection services.
- Experience with public bidding platforms such as Builders Exchange, PlanHub, or similar services.
- Technical proficiency in applicable design standards and codes.
- Drafting knowledge/experience in Bluebeam software preferred.
- NICET II certification, or equivalent level knowledge and experience, preferred but not required.
- State of Michigan FAST license preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to develop sales and customer service skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software; ServiceTrade experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Light lifting of materials for delivery.
- Onsite demands may include walking and standing for long periods, climbing and descending ladders/steps.
