About the unit: 6 South is a 32-bed surgical unit specializing in post-operative care for abdominal surgery patients. You will collaborate closely with surgeons and surgical residents in a team-oriented, multicultural environment. The unit emphasizes open communication, professional autonomy, and strong multidisciplinary relationships with case management, PT/OT, dietitians, and social work. It offers certified preceptors, a well-structured atmosphere, and a diverse patient population to enhance nursing experience and assessment skills. The unit includes 8 telemetry beds for post-surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring.

Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers professional nursing care under the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process and patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. Key duties include:
- Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, following Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Partnering with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan.
- Developing and documenting patient/family teaching strategies and education in the health record.
- Recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Associate’s in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s in Nursing (required within 5 years of hire).
- Graduates from a non-accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years of experience in a licensed healthcare role and must have passed the NCLEX licensure exam.
- Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required upon hire).
- Specialty certification (highly recommended within 2 years).
