RN Neuro PCU Nights

Our Neuro/PCU unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high-acuity patients. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member.

About the Role

• Patient Population: Stroke, Post-op Surgery (brain, neck and back), Seizure, Altered Mental Status, Post Thrombectomy, mild TBI, post-op craniotomy, degenerative neuro disorders, Alcohol withdrawal
• Patient Ratios: 1:3-5
• Number of Beds: 32
• Department Specifics: Active Unit Based Council to help make unit initiatives, Self-Scheduling, Culture of teamwork and safety, Leadership promotes growth and engagement

Shift: Full time nights; 7pm-7am

Responsibilities

• Oversee patient care using a professional practice model, including patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses
• Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare
• Help patients and prevent issues while following the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegating tasks based on condition and team competencies
• Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs
• Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism
• Create care plans reflecting patient values to aid in resolving issues
• Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices
• Assess and document learning needs regularly
• Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan, delegating tasks carefully and following up promptly
• Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff
• Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery
• Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and contribute to peers' development
• Show commitment to community service

Requirements

• Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
• RN license
• BLS certification (must obtain within 30 days of starting in this role)
• 2 years of recent PCU acute care hospital experience

Skills

• Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures
• Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area
• Understanding of hospital procedures and rules
• Proficiency in medical terminology, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects
• Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
• Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email
