About the Role

The Trauma Program Manager collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and hospital leadership to ensure optimal trauma patient care, quality outcomes, and compliance with local, state, and national standards for Trauma Center designation and verification. This role serves as the operational director for trauma program initiatives and ensures adherence to hospital, local, state, and American College of Surgeons requirements. The position maintains 24/7 accountability for trauma program management and demonstrates excellence in strategic planning, coordination, and advocacy for trauma-injured patients across the care continuum.

Responsibilities

• Assure optimal trauma patient care services and compliance with trauma center designation and verification standards.
• Serve as the operational director for internal and external trauma program initiatives, ensuring compliance with hospital, local, state, and American College of Surgeons requirements.
• Oversee administrative operations, financial support, clinical services, educational activities, outreach initiatives, and research activities of the Trauma Center.
• Maintain responsibility and accountability for 24/7 management of the trauma program.
• Demonstrate excellence in strategic planning and coordination for optimal trauma care across the continuum.
• Advocate for trauma patients using data and informational findings to develop measurable patient care and injury prevention initiatives.
• Ensure ongoing monitoring and system redesign to focus on excellence in trauma care.
• Act as an agent for the Trauma Medical Director to assure compliance with regional, state, and national trauma statutes and regulations.
• Perform administrative functions, including initiating, developing, planning, and evaluating activities aligned with the Trauma Center's mission.
• Assume responsibility for the Trauma Center's mission statement, strategic planning, and personnel support.
• Coordinate efforts between local and regional trauma systems to support optimal quality of care for adults and children.
• Maintain HIPAA and trauma patient confidentiality.
• Advise departments on state regulatory standards for trauma care to achieve optimal care processes.
• Ensure trauma patients receive a continuum of optimal care in accordance with ACS guidelines, Joint Commission Standards, and hospital policies.
• Supervise the trauma registry team, including data collection, coding, scoring, and validation processes.
• Design the trauma registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.
• Participate in local, state, and national governmental policy development and support corporate government liaison efforts.
• Support marketing, branding, and community informational development for trauma services.
• Monitor clinical processes, outcomes, and system issues related to the quality of care provided.
• Develop quality filters, audits, and case reviews to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with the Trauma Medical Director in formulating standards, performance evaluation, and supervision of clinical support staff.
• Assist with the coordination and implementation of the Trauma Quality Management Plan.
• Participate in case review and adherence monitoring of practice guidelines.
• Coordinate management across the continuum of trauma care, including planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines.
• Demonstrate active involvement in research projects and analysis of findings.
• Facilitate protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback, and analysis.
• Lead change processes and outcomes measures to address the needs of trauma patients beyond their immediate care episode.
• Participate in internal and external disaster management planning and serve as a member of the hospital disaster management committee.
• Stabilize the network of disciplines involved in providing high-quality trauma care.
• Serve as an internal resource for staff and an extended liaison for EMS agencies.
• Provide professional staff development and direct community trauma education and prevention programs.
• Participate in the implementation and evaluation of programs supporting pre-hospital care, transportation, acute hospitalization, and rehabilitation.
• Maintain open communication with regional hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital care providers.
• Provide feedback to referring physicians, nurses, and EMS agencies.
• Support the trauma program through accurate reporting and timely submission of data to funding entities.
• Assure budget development meets projected needs and hold trauma service members accountable for budgetary success.
• Manage operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the trauma program.
• Serve as a liaison to hospital administration and represent the trauma program on various committees.
• Conduct Trauma Department meetings in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director.
• Demonstrate active participation in local, state, and national trauma organizations and committees.
• Prepare for Trauma Center verification and re-verification by maintaining and organizing supporting documentation.
• Comply with and enforce hospital and Trauma Center policies and procedures.
• Develop processes for monitoring and improving the financial performance and resource utilization of the Trauma Center.
• Demonstrate commitment to maintaining market share through patient and consumer education and improving satisfaction.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required).
• Master's Degree in Nursing or related health field (Preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in Trauma Nursing (Required).
• Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement (Preferred).
• Experience in Project Management (Preferred).
• Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or holds an active compact license (Required).
