RN - Head Nurse - Medical/Surgical Observation

About the role

The Head Nurse oversees patient care, staff management, and daily operations within a specific nursing department. They utilize the nursing process for critical thinking to ensure safe, compassionate, and quality care that upholds patient autonomy and dignity. Collaborating with leadership, they provide clinical guidance, maintain care continuity, and support the hospital’s mission and policies.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and integrate diagnostic data relevant to patient conditions.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement change.
• Guide and intervene during life-threatening situations.
• Assess the effectiveness of clinical interventions and outcomes.
• Implement innovative processes to enhance patient outcomes.
• Engage in clinical leadership activities such as coaching, mentoring, staffing, and performance evaluations.
• Participate in initiatives to improve healthcare delivery.
• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate patient care.
• Support ongoing professional development and learning.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the current unit or similar setting.
• Proficiency in computer literacy.
• Valid RN licensure and BLS certification within 14 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
