RN - Head Nurse - Medical/Surgical Observation

About the Role

The Head Nurse oversees patient care, staff management, and daily operations within a specific nursing department or unit. They utilize the nursing process to make clinical decisions, collaborate with patients and families to promote health, and ensure safe, quality care that respects patient dignity and autonomy. The role includes providing clinical leadership, guiding nursing staff, and supporting hospital goals.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and review diagnostic data relevant to patient conditions.
• Collaborate with leadership and other disciplines to identify improvement opportunities and implement change.
• Provide guidance during life-threatening situations and evaluate intervention outcomes.
• Implement innovative processes to enhance patient outcomes.
• Engage in clinical leadership activities such as coaching, mentoring, staffing, and performance evaluations.
• Participate in initiatives to improve healthcare delivery and communicate effectively with team members.
• Support ongoing learning and development of staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar setting or specialty.
• RN licensure and BLS certification within 14 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
• Computer literacy required; additional skills preferred.
