About the role
The RN Clinical position is a full-time 12-hour day role in the Medical ICU at Keck Medicine of USC. This position is unionized.
Responsibilities
- Fulfills roles within the interdisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients.
- Completes Nursing Assessments upon patient admission, at each shift, and with changes in condition.
- Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses.
- Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions, documenting expected/projected patient outcomes and revising plans daily based on evaluations.
- Administers medication and IV therapy, completing patient care procedures correctly, delegating tasks based on others' scopes of practice and competencies.
- Manages restraint use per policy, ensuring MD orders, assessments, and monitoring are completed.
- Provides patient/family education as needed, participating in treatment planning, and managing special needs like isolation precautions and advanced therapies.
- Collaborates with Case Managers and physicians for discharge planning, ensuring all transfer paperwork and belongings are sent with the patient.
- Utilizes and manages patient care equipment appropriately and safely.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including patient and family, and maintains regulatory agency requirements.
- Manages time effectively, prioritizing responsibilities, and organizing tasks.
- Maintains safe practice in the work environment and follows infection control procedures.
- Engages psychiatric patients in therapeutic interactions, assessing and monitoring for safety, and administering psychotropic medications.
- Demonstrates de-escalation techniques and applies behavioral restraint/seclusion when necessary, ensuring physician assessments and notifying managers.
- Participates in professional development activities and holds relevant certifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- One year acute inpatient hospital experience as RN.
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, and ability to understand, follow, and perform duties as outlined in policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
