About the role

The Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in the interdisciplinary team, utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. This position requires adherence to policies and procedures, demonstrating the ability to apply scientific knowledge practically.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills nursing assessments upon patient admission, at each shift, and with changes in condition.
  • Completes patient acuity assessments by 0200/1400 daily.
  • Interprets assessment information and formulates nursing diagnoses.
  • Develops and revises plans of care daily based on patient outcomes.
  • Administers medication and IV therapy accurately at prescribed intervals.
  • Performs patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals.
  • Delegates tasks based on others' scopes of practice and competencies.
  • Affirms patient rights and advocates for their needs.
  • Manages restraint use per policy, attempting alternative non-restraint measures first.
  • Ensures medical orders are transcribed and signed off by the end of the shift.
  • Completes 12-hour/24-hour chart checks.
  • Provides patient/family education as needed.
  • Collaborates with Case Managers and physicians regarding discharge planning.
  • Ensures all transfer paperwork is completed and belongings are sent with the patient.
  • Utilizes patient care equipment appropriately and safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including patients and families.
  • Takes meal breaks without incurring overtime and completes shifts on time.
  • Maintains regulatory agency requirements and follows infection control procedures.
  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes responsibilities.
  • Engages patients in therapeutic interactions, maintains a therapeutic milieu, and monitors for patient safety.
  • Administers psychotropic medications only after proper consent and documentation.
  • Participates in treatment planning and logs visitors.
  • Debriefs after behavioral restraint incidents, notifying the manager and significant others as allowed by patient.
  • Participates in quality measures and data collection related to nurse-sensitive quality indicators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • One year of acute inpatient hospital experience as RN.
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, and ability to understand, follow, and perform duties as per policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
