About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports nursing staff in delivering patient care, performing clerical tasks, maintaining the unit environment, and managing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to patient calls within 10 minutes and anticipates patient needs.
  • Makes rounds to reduce patient calls and maintains positive interactions with patients and visitors.
  • Serves as a liaison between patients and nursing staff, providing necessary data and implementing interventions.
  • Ensures safety by monitoring the physical environment and operating patient-care equipment safely.
  • Performs daily tasks such as bathing, oral care, hygiene, and assisting with meals and mobility.
  • Documents all care provided, including vital signs, intake and output, and patient care.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and nursing staff, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to departmental policies.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the nurses' station, pantry, and patient rooms.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure patient care quality and data accuracy.
  • Adheres to regulatory standards and maintains confidentiality of patient records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (grandfathered for those hired/transferred before August 2016).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training certification (required within Los Angeles City only).

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
