Retail Licensed Optician

About the Role

Assists customers with frame selection, fits and dispenses frames. Utilizes technical information to interpret prescriptions and help customers select optical products and services.

Responsibilities

• Assist each customer in frame and lens selection while meeting social distance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols, and hygiene practices (e.g., frequent handwashing, avoiding handshakes, covering nose and mouth while coughing/sneezing, avoiding touching eyes/nose/mouth with unwashed hands).
• Provide customers with accurate product information regarding frames, lens selections, and other services.
• Provide customers covered by Third Party insurance with accurate information regarding benefits to ensure proper selection of frames and lenses.
• Inform customers of any additional charges not covered by their Third-Party insurance.
• Utilize the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and establish proper lens recommendations based on patient needs, including all available demonstration tools.
• Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions.
• Communicate as necessary with the Lab and Optometrist to ensure accuracy of prescription.
• Sell, fit, and dispense frames and other accessories through accurate measurements, verification of ordered products, and adjustments of optical products in accordance with Eyewear Presentation guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area.
• Ensure accuracy of customer pricing for retail customers.
• Maintain license requirements per State Guidelines.
• Provide feedback and guidance to Apprentice Opticians where applicable.
• Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and proprietary company policies and procedures (e.g., HIPAA).
• Participate in training and educational activities to fulfill departmental goals and maintain professional affiliations or organizational requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations, and the overall facility daily.
• Complete additional responsibilities as assigned based on changing business needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in explaining optical products, services, prescription analysis, interpretation, fitting, and dispensing.

Pay

Competitive pay and benefits as set forth in the Company’s collective bargaining agreement. Minimum pay rate of $25.50 per hour plus incentive, with starting pay varying based on experience up to a maximum of $38.25 per hour. Incentive pay, wage upgrades, and overtime opportunities are also available.
