Retail Licensed Optician

Essential Responsibilities

• Aid customers in selecting frames, fitting, and dispensing frames.
• Utilize technical information to interpret prescriptions for frame and lens selection.
• Provide accurate product information about frames, lenses, and other services to customers.
• Inform customers about benefits covered by third-party insurance and any additional charges.
• Use the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and make proper lens recommendations.
• Analyze and interpret patients' prescriptions, communicate with the lab and optometrist for accuracy, and sell, fit, and dispense frames and accessories.
• Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area.
• Ensure accuracy of customer pricing for retail customers.
• Maintain license requirements according to state guidelines.
• Provide feedback and guidance to apprentice opticians.
• Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies.
• Participate in training and educational activities.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, workstations, and facility daily.
• Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing. Knowledge and demonstrated abilities in optical products, services, prescription analysis, fitting, and dispensing are essential.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience & Background

Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing. Knowledge and demonstrated abilities in explaining optical products, services, analyzing and interpreting optical prescriptions, fitting, and dispensing are required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, pick or pinch, and talk or hear most of the time. The associate is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The noise level in this location is moderate (use of computers, printers and machines).

Union Position Compensation

Position provides competitive pay and benefits. Specific terms are set forth in the Company’s collective bargaining agreement with a minimum pay rate of $24.50 per hour plus incentive. Starting pay may vary based on experience to a maximum of $36.75 per hour. Incentive pay, wage upgrades, and overtime opportunities also available.
