Research Associate in Flow Generated Noise

About the role
The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research. The role will support a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement concerning the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. The Research Associate will be based with the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney and reports to Manuj Awasthi with no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the research effort of UNSW in aeroacoustics.
- Develop research expertise through defined projects in the field of aeroacoustics.
- Support a DSTG research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise.
- Collaborate with the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Requirements
- Australian citizenship (mandatory).
- PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
- Experience in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Experience in high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
- Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Desirable (but not essential) experience in numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.

Pay
Level A – $118,467 per annum + 17% superannuation.
Schedule
- Full-time (35 hours per week).
- Fixed-term contract – 2 years.
