Research Associate in Flow Generated Noise
This position is based in Australia and requires full-time on-campus attendance at our Kensington – Sydney location.
About the role
The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics will contribute to UNSW’s research efforts and develop their research expertise through defined projects in the field. The role supports a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. You will be based within the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney and report to Manuj Awasthi.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term contract for 2 years. Applicants must be Australian citizens to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research with limited supervision, contributing to the research goals of the Flow Noise Group.
- Support the DSTG research agreement on flow-generated noise through experimental and analytical work.
- Collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships within the research team and broader stakeholders.
- Publish research findings and present at conferences relative to opportunity.
- Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and students, demonstrating highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
Requirements
- Australian citizenship (mandatory).
- Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
- PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Experience in high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
- Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research and stay updated with discipline knowledge.
- Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
Pay
Salary: Level A – $118,467 per annum plus 17% superannuation.
