About the role

We are seeking a Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics to contribute to UNSW’s research efforts and develop research expertise through defined projects in the field. This role supports a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. The position is embedded with DSTG at either Fishermans Bend (Melbourne) or Eveleigh (Sydney).

The role is full-time (35 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract for 2 years. Applicants must be Australian citizens to be considered.

Salary and Schedule

  • Salary: $118,467 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time)
  • Contract duration: 2 years (fixed-term)

Location

Eveleigh, Sydney or Fishermans Bend, Melbourne

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to UNSW’s research efforts in aeroacoustics and develop expertise through defined projects.
  • Support research under a DSTG agreement on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and build effective relationships.
  • Undertake high-quality academic research with limited supervision.
  • Publish research findings and present at conferences.
  • Communicate and interact with diverse stakeholders and students.

Requirements

  • Australian citizenship (mandatory).
  • PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in signal processing and analysis of experimental flow and acoustic data.
  • Sound understanding of experimental measurement techniques in aeroacoustics, turbulence, and/or wind tunnel testing.
  • Experience with numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
  • Commitment to staying updated with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
