Research Associate in Flow Generated Noise
This position is based in Australia and requires full-time on-campus attendance at our Kensington – Sydney location.
About the role
The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics will contribute to UNSW’s research efforts and develop their research expertise through defined projects in the field. The role supports a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. You will be part of the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney and report to Manuj Awasthi.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term contract for 2 years. Applicants must be Australian citizens to be considered.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Support the DSTG research agreement on flow-generated noise through measurement, prediction, and analysis.
- Develop research expertise in defined projects relevant to aeroacoustics.
- Collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships within the research team and broader stakeholders.
- Publish research findings and present at conferences relative to opportunity.
- Proactively stay updated with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Engage with diverse stakeholders and students through clear communication and interaction.
Requirements
- Australian citizenship (mandatory).
- PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience in aeroacoustics or fluid dynamics.
- Experience in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Proficiency in high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
- Ability to conduct high-quality academic research with limited supervision.
- Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Eligibility to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
Pay
Level A – $118,467 per annum + 17% superannuation.
