This position is based in Australia and requires full-time on-campus attendance at our Kensington – Sydney location.
About the role
The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics will contribute to UNSW’s research efforts and develop their research expertise through defined projects in the field. The role supports a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. You will be based within the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney and report to Manuj Awasthi.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term contract for 2 years.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Perform high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
- Contribute to the development and application of numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis (desirable but not essential).
- Publish research findings and present at conferences relative to opportunity.
- Collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of discipline developments and proactively engage in professional growth.
Requirements
- PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
- Australian citizenship (mandatory for this position).
- Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
Skills & Experience
- Proven ability to undertake high-quality academic research with limited supervision.
- Track record of publications and conference presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Experience communicating and interacting with diverse stakeholders.
Pay
Salary: Level A – $118,467 per annum plus 17% superannuation.
