About the role
The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics will contribute to UNSW’s research efforts and develop expertise through defined projects in the field. This role supports a Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) research agreement focused on the measurement, prediction, and analysis of flow-generated noise. The position is embedded with DSTG at either Fishermans Bend (Melbourne) or Eveleigh (Sydney) and reports to Danielle Moreau with no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in aeroacoustics with limited supervision.
- Support DSTG’s research on flow-generated noise through experimental and numerical methods.
- Analyze experimental flow and acoustic data using signal processing techniques.
- Collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Publish research findings and present at conferences.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of discipline developments.
Requirements
- Australian citizenship (mandatory).
- Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance.
- PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in signal processing and analysis of experimental flow and acoustic data.
- Sound understanding of experimental measurement techniques in aeroacoustics, turbulence, and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Experience with numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
- Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research independently.
- Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders and students.
Pay
Level A - $118,467 per annum + 17% superannuation.
Schedule
- Full-time (35 hours per week).
- Fixed-term contract – 2 years.
Location
Eveleigh, Sydney or Fishermans Bend, Melbourne.
