About the role
This remote, skills-based volunteer opportunity supports iLevelUP, a digital education program serving students and first-generation learners.
Responsibilities
- Assess the current application infrastructure and document a practical target architecture.
- Recommend secure, scalable cloud, networking, storage, identity, monitoring, and deployment patterns.
- Collaborate with application developers, product leaders, security volunteers, and technical support.
- Improve backup, disaster-recovery, availability, logging, and incident-response readiness.
- Identify infrastructure risks, technical debt, performance constraints, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Create diagrams and plain-language documentation that future volunteers can maintain.
- Apply privacy, accessibility, and security-by-design principles appropriate for youth education technology.
Requirements
- Cloud architecture or infrastructure engineering with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable platforms.
- Networking, identity and access management, observability, backups, disaster recovery, and data protection.
- Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containers, or serverless systems are helpful.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and nontechnical teammates.
- Commitment to responsible handling of systems that support young people and educational programs.
