Registered Nurse Supervisor (RN)

Location: 1424 Martin Luther King Jr Ln., Temple, Texas. Full-time, hourly position with overtime eligibility and a $3500 sign-on bonus for full-time employees.

About the Role

The Registered Nurse Supervisor provides supervision, coordination, and evaluation of day-to-day nursing activities at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple, TX. This role ensures compassionate and specialized care for veterans, focusing on resident and family experience. The position assumes 24/7 oversight for resident care and nursing staff during assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assume 24-hour oversight for resident care and nursing staff during assigned shift.
• Monitor staffing levels based on acuity and respond to crisis situations.
• Ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies and procedures; recommend revisions as needed.
• Review and update resident care plans; complete and review accident/incident reports.
• Investigate and report allegations of resident abuse (physical, verbal, mental, sexual, neglect, or misappropriation of property).
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly audits; maintain the Daily Census Report.
• Conduct rounds to ensure resident care needs and environmental standards are met.
• Investigate and manage facility problem areas; report outcomes to leadership.
• Participate in Quality Assurance processes, committees, and facility surveys.
• Communicate changes in resident condition to physicians, families, or responsible parties.
• Maintain records of resident grievances and actions taken to resolve them.
• Act as a resource for nursing staff; collaborate on orientation and continuing education.
• Provide direct nursing care as necessary; perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or graduation from an approved RN program.
• Current, unencumbered, active Texas RN license.
• Leadership and supervisory ability; willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise personnel.
• One year of prior nursing management and supervision experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to make independent decisions and cope with mental/emotional stress.
• Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and long-term care regulations.
• Willingness to adopt new methods and principles; ability to assess resident conditions.
• Willingness to be on-call and work weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred) or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Working Conditions

• Works in well-lighted and ventilated indoor areas; subject to frequent interruptions and moderate noise levels.
• Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under various conditions, including emotionally charged situations.
• Works beyond normal duty hours, weekends, and temporarily in other positions as needed.
• May be exposed to bodily fluids, infectious waste, diseases, and viruses (e.g., AIDS, hepatitis B).
• Physical requirements include standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting (up to 50+ pounds).
• Must be able to move equipment, supplies, and residents (with or without assistance).
• Requires auditory ability for monitoring and assessment; ability to observe, listen, touch, and smell.
• Must demonstrate emotional stability and good general health.
• Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, or emotionally upset individuals.
