GENERAL SUMMARY
Will act as the hospital resource to the Cardiac Catheterization lab and Intensive Care units and general practice units. Goals of this position include cross training to the cardiac catheterization lab and the Medical Intensive Care unit to be proficient in caring for patients undergoing emergent cardiac catheterization and post catheterization care in the MICU. The RN will be responsible to assist and operate equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization lab which may include from start to finish of the catheterization and to transition the patient’s care to the MICU. Care of emergent cardiac catheterization patients will be the number one priority.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting with emergent cardiac catheterization on the off shift, weekends and holidays.
- Responding to the ED when an emergent cardiac catheterization patient is identified and preparing the patient for Cath lab; will remain with the patient and provide primary nursing care for the patient in the ED, throughout the Cath lab procedure, and until report is given and the patient is handed off to the RN in the accepting ICU.
- Removal of femoral artery sheaths after cardiac procedures.
- Responding to Code Blues and Rapid Response.
- Providing support/resources, when needed, for the MICU RN caring for post-cardiac Cath patients.
- Transportation of ED patients to the ICUs or GPUs to ICUs
- Transport of ICU patients to tests/procedures
- Aid in moderate sedation of bedside procedures of the ICU patient
- Support unexpected emergent care
- Perform difficult blood draws/IV starts
- Aid in admissions, as deemed appropriate in all IPD areas
- Aid in lengthy (>30min) bedside procedures.
- Complete hospital rounds to assess needs
- Aid GPU RNs with limited exposure medical needs (CAPD, Woundvacs, etc) environment.
Educational/Experience Required
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current State of Michigan License is required.
- Minimum of 2 years ICU required.
- Interventional Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.
