Registered Nurse NICU - Part-time Night Shift

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to work part-time in our Level III NICU, caring for extremely low birth weight infants as small as 500 grams and as young as 24 weeks gestation. This 30-bed unit has an average daily census of approximately 10 babies with varying acuity levels.

About the role

This night-shift position runs from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a bi-weekly schedule of 60 hours. Weekend and holiday rotations are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs of patients using nursing standards.
  • Identify patient needs and prioritize treatment using knowledge and experience.
  • Recognize, document, and communicate subtle changes in patient assessment.
  • Provide initial and reassessment of patients according to organizational and department standards, documenting per policy.
  • Anticipate potential changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Develop and implement an effective, individualized plan of care based on identified patient needs, involving family, caregivers, and other disciplines.
  • Organize and prioritize patient care efficiently, seeking assistance when necessary.
  • Actively participate in developing standards of care according to departmental, organizational, professional, or regulatory standards.
  • Implement and document nursing interventions and patient responses accurately and completely.
  • Communicate pertinent information to patients, families, and healthcare team members in a timely and interdisciplinary manner.
  • Update patient/family on status and changes in care plan as they evolve.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in patient assignments based on skill mix and patient care demands.
  • Evaluate nursing care, including tools and equipment, and document effectiveness of interventions.
  • Review, evaluate, and modify the plan of care as needed, anticipating patient responses and collaborating with the healthcare team.
  • Identify variances from expected outcomes and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Provide patient/family education by assessing learning needs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
  • Develop and implement teaching plans, evaluate effectiveness, and communicate progress to other healthcare disciplines.
  • Integrate discharge planning and referrals into the teaching process.
  • Offer support to less experienced staff in patient/family teaching.
  • Demonstrate professional expectations, including self-development, meeting clinical ladder requirements, and promoting staff retention and morale.
  • Utilize supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality patient care.
  • Float to other nursing units as requested.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability, including effective communication, delegation, precepting, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to program policies and participate in orientation.
  • Review quality assurance data for accuracy and completeness, and contribute to evaluation/auditing processes.
  • Complete all hospital-wide and department-specific competencies.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or a compact state.
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred or willingness to obtain within 5 years of employment.
  • BLS certification required.
  • NRP certification required upon hire or within 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands

Medium-Heavy Work – infrequent lifting up to 100 pounds, carrying up to 50 pounds while walking, pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour), and greater than 115 pounds infrequently (less than one lift every three minutes).

Pay

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education, with a range of $36.07 - $55.17 per hour. Part-time salaries are pro-rated based on scheduled hours. Shift differential and overtime pay may apply for non-exempt positions.
