About the role
The Labor and Delivery unit delivers approximately 350 babies per month and cares for 700-900 outpatients per month. Their focus is on high risk labor for women age 14-55. They have the highest employee engagement scores in the hospital, with very active committees which contribute to the shared governance on the unit. Over 70% of LDR nurses have received their National Nursing Certifications. Additionally this unit has been remodeled and the project was completed in Spring 2023.
Responsibilities
- Deliver patient-centered nursing care in accordance with standards of care defined by Wesley Medical Center
- Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice by participation in quality of care activities to initiate, implement, and sustain process improvements
- Acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice and education
- Monitor the patient's progress toward the attainment of outcomes
- Contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others
- Collaborate with the patient, significant others and health care providers in providing and advocating for patient care
- Consider safety and cost effectiveness when delivering patient care
- Make decisions and actions on behalf of patients in an ethical manner
- Participate in the improvement of operational functions of the department
- Establish and maintain effective and respectful communication in development of all collaborative relationships
- Evaluate and participate in opportunities for outstanding service to all customers and accept responsibility in partnership that is equally respectful to everyone
- Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of age-appropriate competencies to department specific population
- Utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify, interpret, and access appropriate resources in patient specific scenario(s)
- Secure, administer and handle medication according to established guidelines
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- (RN) Registered Nurse
- Registered Nurse Diploma, or Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree
