Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

About the role

This RN position is a full-time 36-hour night shift position from 7 pm–7:30 am. Banner Payson Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital offering emergency, intensive care, imaging, labor and delivery, laboratory, surgery, rehabilitation, and a wide array of outpatient and specialty clinics.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
• Accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction.
• Utilize specialized knowledge and judgment to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to each patient’s physical and developmental age.
• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge-planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within policy timeframes; review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulate and initiate a plan of care, including discharge planning, in collaboration with the patient/family and multidisciplinary team; revise the plan as patient needs change.
• Implement the plan through direct care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision; promote continuity of care through accurate communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; document assessments, interventions, and patient responses legibly and in accordance with policy.
• Provide evidence-based care and participate in research activities when applicable; contribute to unit or facility shared leadership.
• Educate, role-develop, and orient facility personnel, students, families, and visitors; precept and mentor when appropriate.
• Support growth of others and participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
• Supervise staff and workflow in some roles; interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area, demonstrated through annual validations.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require ≥1 year experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require ≥1 year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
