Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

We have a 6-bed unit with room to grow to 8 in labor and delivery, including 2 triage rooms and 2 OR suites. Our team works well together and is excited about the growth of our newer hospital.

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.

Responsibilities

• Assess: Performs appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status (including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as appropriate). Seeks and evaluates information acquired from other members of the interdisciplinary team: patient, family, physician, non-nursing disciplines, support staff, and others.
• Plan: Uses assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop an individualized plan of care. Actively seeks patient, family, team, and physician involvement to develop the plan of care, including needed education. Collaboratively plans and prepares patients for further support needs once the current episode of care outcomes are met (e.g., teaching, referrals, and follow-up).
• Implement: Directs the interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination, and collaboration as appropriate. Provides or delegates care consistent with the plan of care, guidelines of care, and professional licensure provisions. Demonstrates the ability to set priorities and coordinate and organize patient care delivery through effectively managing time, supplies, and resources.
• Evaluate: Evaluates patient response to interventions through review of achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction. Revises plan of care as indicated and reassesses changes as appropriate.
• Professionalism: Promotes the nursing profession and participates in the development of others. Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice, complies with regulatory standards, practices within scope of licensure, provides accurate and timely documentation, and understands legal implications of care delivery.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or willingness to obtain within four (4) years of hire date. Note: As of 4/27/2025, a BSN is required; employees hired or promoted prior to this date are held to the minimum requirements in place at the time of their hire or promotion.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of Labor & Delivery (L&D) RN work experience
• NCC certification

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication, as well as the ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, and medication preparation.
• Expected to lift and utilize a full range of movement to transfer patients, including bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Items may vary in weight, including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment (some heavy items). Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (e.g., full of equipment, power cords on the floor).
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle, which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $35.22 - $53.29. Actual hourly rate is dependent upon experience.

Schedule

Full-time, 36 hours per week, with variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
