About the role

As an Emergency Department nurse at Parkland Medical Center, you will provide total care for patients before, during, and after treatment, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs. You will handle cases ranging from minor to critically ill or traumatized patients, triage using Emergency Nursing Association systems, and develop care plans to meet emergent needs. Teamwork, flexibility, and quick, accurate information processing are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate appropriate assessments and intervention skills in all patient interactions and care delivery.
  • Communicate accurately and timely with patients, team members, and management.
  • Document care completely and promptly using computer charting/ordering systems.
  • Apply critical thinking skills and consider alternative approaches.
  • Organize and prioritize multitask workload for multiple patients.
  • Develop and maintain human care relationships.
  • Adapt care for diverse populations, advocate for patient needs, and provide ethical and legal care.
  • Recognize the importance of teamwork and acknowledge personal limits, requesting assistance as needed.
  • Delegate, assign, and coordinate care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Incorporate teaching and health promotion into care delivery.
  • Assess learning barriers, provide patient education, and counsel on health behaviors.
  • Apply knowledge of patient populations, age-appropriate care, and expected norms (e.g., vital signs, lab values).
  • Integrate new data to improve care and apply technical, psychological, social, intellectual, and physical skills.
  • Demonstrate unit-specific skills and maintain required competencies.
  • Promote internal and external customer satisfaction and a culture of service excellence.
  • Adhere to work schedule and attendance policy.
  • Manage daily operations of Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), including decision-making, error identification, and corrective action.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and POCT.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and POCT applicable to the Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED).
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Hampshire or valid compact state licensure.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of critical care nursing experience.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 30 days of start date.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) or PALS (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
