Mercy Fort Smith has undergone a $162 million expansion of its ER and ICU. The ER has expanded from 29 to 50 rooms, and the ICU went from 38 to 64 rooms. This expansion enabled approximately 25,000 additional patient visits per year, allowing us to better meet the needs of our community in a world-class environment.

Requirements
- Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
- Licensure: Current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed; must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Experience: 1 Year ER experience preferred.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire (Required).
- One or more of the following may be required based on the position/unit or within a department-required timeframe:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurses)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
- S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support)
- Six Assessment & Care Modules
- C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
- Other unit-specific certifications as required
Staffing Ratios
- 3:1 ratios on high acuity; with 4:1 as needed.
Transfers
The only cases that are transferred out are complex ortho, major burns, and certain neurosurgery. Everything else stays in house.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
- Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
