Role Overview
The Nurse Educator assesses the educational needs of nursing staff, students, and other healthcare professionals to plan and deliver orientation and ongoing education.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs for staff, hospital, and community.
- Mentors staff, monitors clinical competencies, and ensures high-quality patient care and safety.
- Conducts staff assessments through observations and chart reviews to identify learning needs.
- Facilitates classroom and bedside instruction, creating unit-specific in-service programs.
- Supports staff development, tracks competency progression, and collaborates with leadership on improvement plans.
- Maintains current knowledge of nursing practices, investigates practice concerns, and participates in committees.
- Works at least one shift per month as a direct care RN to stay current with clinical techniques.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies, modeling professional behavior.
- Provides direct patient care as needed and promotes compassionate, patient-centered service.
Qualifications & Skills
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a minimum of 2 years in the specialty area.
- Current, unrestricted RN license in NY State.
- Preferred: BSN or MSN, AHA BLS/ACLS instructor certification, specialty certification.
- Strong clinical expertise, teaching skills, and ability to evaluate staff performance.
