Real Time Crime Center Operator (RTCC) Operator

About the Role

Receive, evaluate, and transmit information via telephone, computer, and multi-channel radio, often involving emergency and critical situations affecting human welfare and safety. Utilize computer-aided dispatch and other computer systems to analyze multiple data sets, recognize relevant intelligence, and maintain access to highly sensitive materials. Perform multiple activities simultaneously in a high-visibility setting with frequent interruptions while adhering to rules, procedures, and regulations. Provide tactical and strategic intelligence, analyze crime records, query databases, and develop intelligence products such as bulletins and threat assessments.

Responsibilities

• Receive and interpret coded information via a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, telephone, and multi-channel radio.
• Read and interpret maps (Albuquerque street maps, New Mexico State maps, city/county maps, and computer mapping systems) to locate geographical areas and provide timely assistance.
• Accurately input, update, request, and transmit queries from various sources to maintain records or access databases for information such as wants, warrants, intelligence, driver’s licenses, and vehicle registrations.
• Review daily bulletins (e.g., All Points Bulletin summaries, Attempt to Locate notices) to stay current on wanted suspects, stolen vehicles, and officer safety issues.
• Maintain awareness of activities in the Real Time Crime Center (e.g., 9-1-1 calls, critical incidents) to connect related information and provide additional support.
• Maintain security and integrity of all information in the Real Time Crime Center.
• Monitor, collect, collate, evaluate, and analyze crime data for trends and patterns.
• Communicate effectively with end users.
• Appear in court as subpoenaed.
• Review shift activities with the relieving operator to ensure accurate information exchange.
• Remain current on job-specific procedures through training.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of experience in any combination of the following areas:
  • Data analysis
  • Computer-aided dispatch
  • Utilization of law enforcement databases
  • Dispatching
  • Computer-aided research
• Experience working in a public safety environment preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, NCIC Certification within six (6) months of hire.
• Possession of National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certification preferred.
• Successfully pass the National Criminal Intelligence Resource Center’s 28 CFR Part 23 training within six (6) months of hire.
• Satisfactorily complete on-the-job training and pass the Real Time Crime Center Certification exam.
• Must pass drug test, hearing test, criminal records check, and background check.

Schedule

• Holidays, evenings, weekends, and irregular or flexible hours may be required.
• Possible extension of shift hours at times with short notice.

Working Conditions

• Office environment with exposure to computer screens.
• Prolonged periods of sitting.
